Tulia Tender Nest — Transition Home

The journey of caring for a premature baby doesn't end at hospital discharge — for many mothers, that's where the hardest part begins. Premature babies need specialized care, close monitoring, and confident caregivers to survive and thrive, and for mothers from economically vulnerable communities, the leap from a fully-equipped NICU straight back to a one-room home can be overwhelming.

Tulia Tender Nest is our answer to that gap: a temporary, safe-stabilization home where high-risk mothers and their premature babies receive continued care, hands-on training, and emotional support before they return to their communities — with the skills and confidence to keep their babies alive and thriving.

__What We Do__

At Tender Nest, mothers receive:

Structured, round-the-clock care for both mother and baby during a critical stabilization period

Caregiver education, including Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), feeding, hygiene, and infection prevention

Hands-on training in recognizing danger signs, so mothers know when and how to seek help

Emotional and psychosocial support, helping mothers process the trauma and fear that often come with a preterm birth

Ongoing monitoring and referral, ensuring babies who need further medical attention get it in time

Tender Nest is a bridge, not a destination — every mother who comes through leaves stronger, better equipped, and more confident than when she arrived.

Through this program, we're working to increase preterm survival, reduce preventable complications, and give every premature baby the best possible start — while turning frightened new mothers into confident, capable caregivers.
